Maybank continues to champion financial literacy in Cambodia

Maybank continues to champion financial literacy among Cambodia’s young population, with the launch of its fifth financial literacy program Maybank Cashville Kidz which aims to benefit over 9,800 students.

The program, approved by the National Bank of Cambodia and the Cambodian Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, will run from June 2022 to September 2022. It aims to teach children aged 9 to 12 to be financially savvy .

Maybank Cambodia CEO Dato’ Mohd Hanif Suadi said, “Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, Maybank has stayed the course to ensure that its community programs help benefit Cambodia’s younger generation by providing them with a skill instrumental life that will help them manage their lives. finances in the future. We hope Maybank’s Cashville Kidz program will be helpful for them to learn the importance of financial literacy.

Since its pilot launch in 2017, the program has successfully reached more than 33,000 students and trained nearly 900 educators from 113 schools across the country. In 2021, amid the challenges of navigating businesses through the COVID-19 pandemic, the program remained focused on increasing financial literacy among young Cambodians by reaching 8,262 students in 30 schools across 6 provinces. At the same time, 266 educators have been trained to help deliver this program in schools.

Along with the latest Cashville Kidz program, Maybank has also taken the initiative to encourage and foster deeper participation from the various stakeholders involved in the field of financial education in the country by hosting its latest virtual Maybank Financial Education Excellence Awards 2021.

The awards celebration aims to recognize schools, educators and students who have made extraordinary efforts to actively advocate and promote financial literacy in the country and create a deeper awareness of its importance.

The Best Educator Award and the Best Student Award were judged by esteemed judges, namely HE Rath Sovannorak, Deputy Governor and Managing Director of Banking Supervision, National Bank of Cambodia, HE Dr Sok Siphana, Founding Partner, SokSiphana & Associates and HE Dr. Mok Sarom, Deputy Director General, Directorate General for Education, Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports.

This event was honored by HE Rath Sovannorak, Deputy Governor and Managing Director of Banking Supervision, National Bank of Cambodia, Chairman and Board Members of Maybank Group, Chairman and Board Members of Maybank Cambodia Plc, including Maybank Cambodia CEO Dato’ Mohd Hanif Suadi, Maybank Group Sustainability Director Shahril Azuar Jimin, Maybank Foundation CEO Khairudin Abdul Rahman and MoneyTree Asia Pacific Founder Michael Reyes.

The Maybank CashvilleKidz Financial Literacy Program is a joint initiative of the Maybank Foundation, Maybank Cambodia and MoneyTree Asia Pacific to promote and raise the level of financial literacy among students in Cambodian schools.
